Learning About My Daughter’s Wedding

Learning About My Daughter’s Wedding

When I answered the telephone that morning and heard my daughter’s voice on the line I knew at once that something was wrong.  And after her first few words I also knew she needed some money.  What was wrong, or why she needed the money would come out in due time, but I already knew two sapient facts that would dictate my next actions.  While she was still speaking I called Western Union up on my tablet and used a Groupon to have a small amount – I was only guessing at that point – ready to wire her as soon as she finished giving me all the details.

You see, I knew these things right from the beginning because Diane never calls on the phone.  She’s one of that generation who somehow manage to type the words she would text faster than she could say them, something I’d never believed was possible.  For her to call meant she felt she needed us to hear her voice, rather than read her words.  And that was how I knew she needed money.  Ordinarily she calls me “Pops” – it’s her way of saying I might be older but I was still a good-looking and sexy guy.  So when she greeted me with “Good morning, Grandfather” I was filled with a sense of alarm.  Whatever was wrong, she certainly needed money bad to start speaking like we were in a confessional.

It turned out that she was worried about something we’d expected from her years ago.  She’d decided to get married.  And now they needed the carfare to come and visit us, since we hadn’t been able to come to their wedding.  Hadn’t been able to come – we’d never even been notified!  In truth my wife and I’d been suspecting something was brewing for some time. They’d mentioned making plans after graduation.  But since they were in school and had little travel money they said they would wait.  Now they wanted to borrow – isn’t that a quaint way to ask? – the fare to come visit.  So the upshot is that “Pops” is now on the hook for two round trip tickets while losing a step-daughter.  My wife says I should see it as gaining a son.  But I’d prefer not being so rudely reminded of my increasing seniority.

Affordable Things of Aftershaves

Affordable Things of Aftershaves

She was at that point starting to feel somewhat unsettled when he landed with his masculine appeal and seeing her in that fettle energized his macho. She fastened her woodwind when he crept toward her. Exactly when he said, “Hi”, she weakly assembled her words and said, “You are smothering me with that deplorable face ointment smell”. That without any help cut his macho down. Keeping in mind the end goal to stay away from such minutes, think about post-shaving astringent substitutes.

We don’t mean to put aftershave-user fellas off their stride. We want all men to think of giving off a lingering fragrance that every woman wants to be accosted with. But fellas, a flower that discharges smotheringly sweet aroma is often throttled and trampled upon. Ouch. We don’t know how you will link this. Anyway. Why smell nice at the expense of your skin fellas? Aftershave ain’t just about smelling like an imaginary cowboy but about protecting your skin from bacteria and moisturizing it from the close shaving encounters and razor burns. We believe that a man shouldn’t just smell like a man but a gentleman. Moving on.

Your cheeks after shaving must look in mint condition with that signature polished look of a gentleman. Gents, we now present to you some good options that you can try in place of the stinging aftershave.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera’s natural anti-inflammatory property makes it a good aftershave alternative for all skin types. It will have a very smooth and soothing effect on your skin; your skin will be so touchable that you will feel like pulling your own cheeks. Uh, okay, maybe we went a bit too far with this one but you will love that feeling and most importantly your skin will be fed with the essential nutrients.

Apple Cider Vinegar Aftershave
No matter how adept your manly skills are, you are still a man who will cut himself while shaving. So you need an ingredient that will act like an anesthetic, which thankfully apple cider vinegar will. And besides that, you will be making it on your own or beseeching your woman or momma to make it for you; but you will at least know what exactly you are slapping yourself with in the name of an aftershave.

Dilute apple cider vinegar with equal amount of water or if you think the smell is an overkill, combine it with witch hazel. Men who want to give others a redolent olfactory experience can add a few drops of rosemary, bergamot or cinnamon oil and leave a manly spoor. After mixing all the ingredients, put them in a jar and place it in a cool dark place for a couple of days (4-5 days is enough), shake it, dab it on a cotton ball, and shine like a freshly-lathered stallion.

Cold Water
Many fellas may find this uninspiring but gents, a splash of cold water is all you need to close your skin pores that you opened while shaving. Your nicked and irritated skin will have a refreshing, Bahamas-like experience with cold water and your skin will be all invigorated with this simple aftershave alternative.

Alum
Egyptians used it then and now, so will you. Alum is a perfect option for an aftershave which acts both as an antiseptic and constricting agent (it contracts blood vessels for bleeding to stop). Alum will take care of your nicks and damaged skin like a caring momma. Rub alum on your wet skin for a minute and leave for another one or two minutes to let it do its healing magic. Caveat – Alum causes a little stinging sensation but worry not as it is a sign that its palliative properties are at work. Also, alum has propensity to dry the skin, so those with already dry skin, don’t rub it vehemently but use it sparingly and apply a good moisturizer after (unless you want to look like some worn-out alligator tote bag).

Bay Rum Aftershave
This aftershave is a well-wrought manly concoction of Jamaican rum and West Indies Bay Leaves. Whether it was some sober sailor’s concern for hygiene or if it was a useful product of insobriety; we still express our heartfelt gratitude to the sailor community for this amazing aftershave substitute. You can also add in some vodka, cinnamon, and allspice to the woody bouquet to get a flirty refreshing accent. Ladies are swooning already.
Gents, if your olfactory lobe isn’t sated with certain fragrances, you can always apply your favorite masculinity-affirming perfume on your pulse points, neck, shoulders, etc. You need not depend on an aftershave for it, as by now you must have realized that there’s more to an aftershave than just overwhelming fragrance.

How to Promise Natural Beauty

How to Promise Natural Beauty

Quick Fact
People often tend to get confused between face packs and face masks.

Masks are nothing but peel-off products that are non-setting. They do not dry or harden on the skin, and are also applied for a longer duration. They have a gel or cream-like texture.

Face packs on the other hand are clay masks that dry after application. They harden after applying and need to be washed off. Face packs can be easily made at home whereas, face masks are ready-made products.
Beauty may not be just skin-deep, but it sure has a lot to do with the skin. Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing are, or rather should be every girl’s beauty mantra. As a result of pollution and other environmental hazards, one’s skin is constantly subjected to harsh conditions. Your natural beauty does not always have to be enhanced with the help of cosmetics and visits to the parlor.
A healthy diet along with a proper exercise routine and of course, lots of fluid intake, is the first step for naturally beautiful skin. Condition the Beard
When you are growing a beard for the first time, you are likely to experience itchiness on the skin. This is because, initially, the hair shafts that are very near to the follicle (pouch that contains the hair root) have very sharp edges. As the length of the hair shafts start increasing, these edges act like follicle scraping agents. They scrape against the hair follicles, which can trigger skin irritation and itchiness. Moreover, as the hair strands begin to grow, they eventually curl, hitting back the face with their sharp needle-like edges. This too can cause irritation and make the beard itchy. This is a temporary phase of growing a beard, which goes away within 2 to 3 weeks.

During this phase, you need to condition the beard by applying a few drops of olive or jojoba oil, or even baby oil. You can also use beard oil that is specially formulated for this purpose. These conditioners soften the beard, and moreover the sharp edges of hair strands also, causing less itching.

Shampooing the Beard
An itchy beard indicates that it needs a thorough cleaning. Shampoos are not meant only for your head hair; they can also be used to clean your beard. However, one shouldn’t use regular shampoos, as they have not been formulated for beards. You can use a mild baby shampoo or beard soap or shampoo (twice or thrice a week), as these products are designed for this purpose. However, for serious issues such as a dandruff itch, you might have to use Head and Shoulders or the Selsun Blue shampoo.

You can also use an anti-itch beard wash to clean the beard. Wash your beard under the shower twice or thrice a week, and you will soon notice that it no longer itches. This needs to be followed by conditioning the beard.

Moisturizer
In some cases, despite using a shampoo and a conditioner regularly, one may still experience an itchy feeling. This indicates that the skin under the beard has become fairly dry, and requires the use of a moisturizer. So, apart from conditioning, make sure that you apply a moisturizer (3 to 4 times in a week) that infuses your skin with deep-down hydration. This too can help to alleviate the itchy feeling associated with dry skin.

Moisturizing Soap
Allowing the moisturizer to sit on the beard can give a feeling of discomfort. So, instead of a moisturizer, you can rinse your beard with a moisturizing soap, such as Dove.

Hydrocortisone Cream
This is essentially an anti-itch cream that may work to get rid of the problem. OTC creams containing 0.5% hydrocortisone are found to be helpful in relieving an itchy sensation.

The infection caused by T. mentagrophytes and T. verrucosum species of fungus is marked by papules and pustules. Due to this infection, the hair may become brittle. Beard ringworm can be treated with antifungal creams such as terbinafine and miconazole. In severe cases, treatment involves taking an oral dose of antifungal agents like griseofulvin, itraconazole, fluconazole, and ketoconazole, for a period of 2 to 3 weeks.

Acne Cream
The problem can also arise due to ingrown hair, a condition that commonly occurs due to improper way of shaving. Ingrown hair means that the hair does not come out from the hair follicles (pouches that contain hair roots), and instead, it moves sideways, piercing the follicle wall, and grows within the skin. This results in the formation of very tiny pimples, with hair shafts emerging from their center. Treatment involves applying acne creams containing retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid. Severe cases of ingrown hair may require oral intake of antibiotics.
